Why convert GIF to JPG?
The usual reason is that a GIF saved from a chat app or a meme site needs to go somewhere that expects a photo — an upload form, a document, a print job. Be aware of two things: an animated GIF keeps only its first frame, and GIF’s 256-colour palette means the banding in the original is baked in and cannot be recovered.

About the formats
GIF — Graphics Interchange Format
GIF is older than the web itself and survives on two things: animation and support that is genuinely universal. Its fatal limitation is colour — a maximum of 256 shades per frame, which turns photographs into a dithered, banded mess. For animation it has been comprehensively beaten by video and by animated WebP, but nothing else drops into a chat window quite so reliably.

JPEG has been the default photo format for more than thirty years, and that longevity is the entire point: there is no device, browser, printer or application that cannot open one. Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly and the Canvas API. Your images are never sent over the network, never touch a server, and are dropped from memory as soon as you close the tab.
What happens to an animated GIF?
Only the first frame survives. The browser hands over a single still frame to encode, and JPG is written from that. If you need the animation kept, this is not the right tool — convert it to a video instead.
Will I lose quality?
JPG is a lossy format, so some data is discarded. At the default quality of 85% the difference is invisible on screen for most photos. Raise the slider if you plan to print or edit the result.
Is there a limit or a cost?
It is free and there is no account. The only limits are practical: 30 files at a time and 60 MB per file, so that the tab does not run out of memory on a phone.
